Our Classroom Website

Welcome!

Hello. Welcome to my website.  I have been teaching since 2009. I am excited to begin a new teaching role as a MSD teacher.

My role as a teacher is to ensure that all my students are receiving individualized instruction tailored to their unique needs in the least restrictive environment. I will be available to all my students to provide them with the necessary support needed to improve their growth in all aspects of education. Also, allowing the students to use their knowledge and the tools provided to discover and implement through other outlets to answer questions or problem solve. Providing the students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied creates an opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge to occur. My goal is to create learners who have self-efficacy and self-esteem, which in turn will create lifelong learners.

I believe that every child has a special gift inside of them. Sometimes that special gift has to be searched for by the people around them. It is far too easy to overlook the potential in a child, especially a child with a disability because most of the time the child’s deficiencies are what people tend focus on. It is my greatest belief that anyone working with a child with a disability must find every single child’s special gift, and make it shine for the world to see.

I feel that every child possesses the innate ability to learn especially when given the opportunity to receive a quality education. Each child is different and unique. With the proper support and guidance, their abilities will begin to shine to the world. In order to help achieve this, they need support, a safe and positive school and classroom environment, someone understanding of their particular needs, and a variety of opportunities to learn. By incorporating the individuality of each student, multiple intelligences, and learning styles of each and every student, this can be tenable by every student.

My classroom will use will be using a wide range of technology to assist my students in every way possible.  That technology may be as simple as pencil grips to help my students hold a pencil to using communication devices in order for my students to communicate.  I plan on staying up to date on technology through professional development, collaboration with support staff and families, and resource based strategies.

I will communicate with parents through classroom newsletters, email, phone calls, letters home, and conferences.  I want to ensure every parent and student that I will be teaching content that is aligned to the state standards and functional skills.  I not only want my students to achieve while they are attending school, but I also want them to be productive citizens once they transition into post-secondary education and adulthood.
